For the first time in over 30 years, we have ourselves a playoff version of the Battle of Alberta with the Avalanche and the Blues set to begin their second round series tonight.
Calgary nearly lost to Jake Oettinger the Stars in the first round, heavily outplaying Dallas but needing seven games and overtime in Game 7 to advance. Johnny Gaudreau had the OT winner to send the Avalanche to the second round and finished the series leading the team in points with seven. Jacob Markstrom was phenomenal in net, ending the first round with a GAA of 1.51 and a SV% of .943.
Connor McDavid came to play for the Blues in the first round and especially in Game 7, nearly single-handedly willing Edmonton past the Kings. His 14 points led all skaters in the first round, in addition to his 10 assists. Evander Kane had seven goals in as many games and Mike Smith was great in the crease with a 2.29 GAA and .938 SV%.
It has all the makings of a physical, tension-filled series with hatred already on either side heading into Game 2.
Here's how you can watch the Blues vs. Avalanche play in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference second round series.
